Reasons to choose Mac over PC

All of my documents from my PC work on my Mac. The same software I was familiar with, such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook are all on my Mac. Microsoft offers the same software suit that are available for Windows and for around the same price.

The Mac can run Windows 7 on parallels or on Boot Camp. Parallels lets you run Windows on your Mac without having to restart your computer. Boot Camp requires you to restart but it runs a lot smoother and faster because instead of having to share your system resources on running two operating systems. You can use all of your system resources on Windows and get all the benefits of having Windows with a few Mac touches, such as the multi-touch track pad features that work in Boot Camp.

The multi-touch track pad is awesome. It has features such as using two fingers to scroll up and down, pinching to shrink, expanding to enlarge, and many others. The new operating system, Lion, is said to have even more features as well. The best feature to me is the feature that allows you to use four fingers and move them all downward and it will show me all my open documents at once. This makes switching between programs and documents even easier.

It is possible for a Mac to get a virus but the likelihood of it happening is slim to none. Windows does have the majority of the personal computer market therefor making it a bigger target for virus makers. One reason Macs don’t get viruses is because system files can only be edited with user authentication and it’s a lot easier to self-install something on a Windows based computer. The Mac OS is built on UNIX, which is a more secure operating system.

I had a Dell before my MacBook Pro. I could never take my Dell to class without taking the charger. When my MacBook Pro is fully charged I can leave the power supply at home because I can take it to work, class, and still have battery left by the end of the day. I’ve had my MBP for over a year now and the battery will still last several hours before I have to worry about plugging it up. My Dell battery was pretty much worthless after a year. The new MacBook Pro can last up to 7 hours on a full charged battery.

The last reason I love Mac over Windows is the support I get from Apple. Apple has workshops at their retail stores that can teach me how to use their software. They offer many video tutorials on their website to teach me the basics. The Macs come with 365 days of warranty incase anything goes wrong with your computer but you can also purchase more before the first year is up. Apple also offers a video here that shows some of the basic differences in using the Mac over Windows.

Technology in the World as we know it

Whether it is on television, on the computer, on a Smart Phone, or any other application, the fact of the matter is that technology has taken over the world of media. If someone wants to access news it is just a matter of what Internet website or technological device they will use to obtain it. People are losing jobs in the newspaper and magazine world because of this issue. As these perspective industries are doing whatever it takes to make strides in their business to keep it alive, I just don’t think it will work because of the effectiveness of these technological advances in the world of news. I think it is safe to say that paper products, when it comes to news, are on the way out. It’s all about accessibility in news, and right now that easy access comes in the form of the Internet and devices.

Technology is everywhere we look. It affects our everyday life in many various ways. When I think of what area technology has grown the most, I feel like it is in the world of Media. The way we get the news has changed drastically over the past couple years. The days of having a paper boy are long gone due to the “Apps” one can download on an iPad, on the internet, and on television. Due to this drastic change in the way we can receive news, the newspaper industry and magazine industry has seen a major decrease in profit. When you think about it, why would we buy a magazine or read the newspaper when we can access the news through various forms of technology? I feel like the only reason why newspapers and magazines are still in existence is due to their “pastime” like persona that each has had for a number of years. I read something recently that stated the main problem with newspaper and magazines these days is that they don’t charge enough for subscriptions. They basically give away their product, mainly out of desperation to get the news out to perspective readers.

Technology has opened up a new world in media. Twitter and Facebook are taking over the world when it comes too social networking. When someone has a Twitter or Facebook account they can “follow” such news entities as CNN, Fox, ESPN, and many other news networks. Also, if someone has one of the new popular Smart Phones they can receive instant email updates, or tweets from these perspective networks telling them breaking news or other useful information.

When signing on to NYtimes.com (New York Times), one can access information from existing links such as sports, business, entertainment, politics, and many others. This is also the case with any other newspaper. This whole idea of social networking on these news websites makes them more appealing to viewers because the readers are allowed the opportunity to post comments on certain articles and can actually be involved in the news, which is something newspapers and magazines cannot offer.

Newspapers everywhere are realizing that their time is coming to an end. Statistics have been showing that the number of readers has been falling each year. The people of this generation don’t seem to appreciate the past time of sitting down and reading the newspaper. It’s all about quick and easy, and all about clicking the mouse and getting the information right then. I feel like the Internet is constantly being updated while you have to wait until the next morning to retrieve the days news when it comes to newspapers. The only reason why newspapers are still being put onto newsstands is because of the habit we have formed from reading them. As far as we know it, the generation of the newspaper is going to be gone very soon. It just doesn’t stand a chance against all the technology that is being put into our world.
When it comes to electronics a lot of people look to brands to find the best quality. Usually the best brands are supposed to equal the best quality which means that the consumer trust in the name of the brand. We give the brands meaning as to how good the product is. For instances brands like Sony ,

Phillips,

Samsung,

and Vizio

are great brands when it comes to electronics. These are the things that we trust, that we feel will not fail us in the long run the better the brands the more us we get. Well I’m here to let you know that sometimes just having a good brand name is not enough are having the newer product.

Okay about a two years ago me and my soon to be husband moved in together, he had this old 1980’s Orion Television and I had a 1999 Phillips Magnavox
(My fiance's TV on left and My TV on the right)

Well this particular day there was a thunder storm roaring outside and we decided to watch a movie and thunder stuck the building that we were staying in and all the power in the apartment went off everything came back on within about 30 minutes even my fiancé’s 1980’s Orion T.V. My Phillip’s Magnavox on the other hand never regained any type or form of life. Orion, before I meet my fiancé was not a brand that I had ever heard of before and I did think that Phillips was a better brand and thought I had the better Television but in the long run through any weather the Orion which would have also been consider a dinosaur compared to the Phillips out lived the younger TV and is still alive to this day. The only problem that we have now is that the sound comes and goes as it pleases. I guess it was built to last
.

Androids for Dummies

Last summer, I got a job. When I came to Orientation to get ready for school I had this little Samsung Freeform. I saw everybody walking around the campus pulling out their PDA phones like Blackberry and iPhones. I told my mother and brother before I start school I have to upgrade. I had to look like the rich kids. While the summer goes by I talked to my stepfather about upgrading my phone and it wasn’t a problem for him. So I continue to work and save up my money for this specific phone that I want to get. When it got almost that time for me to start school I got it. When I got all the things that I need for school I purchased the phone. I had enough money for the phone and accessories for it. The phone that I got was Motorola Milestone-Android with Cellular South. Even though my mother was fussing about how I was going to pay my bill. When I first received the phone I was confused on how to work the phone. I gave myself the rest of the day to learn how to work the phone. The Motorola Milestone was the first Smartphone that I have had in my lifetime. The different things that I like about my phone are all the free applications, check emails on the go, navigation, text messages, and browser the Internet.
I love my Android because I can do things that other can’t do with their phones. I love that I can set specific ringtones for people by doing that it is easy for me to know who is calling or texting me. I take my phone everywhere with me. When I don’t have my phone it feels like I have lost my life. As my mother say I can’t do anything without my phone. What kind of teenager can’t go a day without their cellphones? I plan on sticking with Android for a long time. The profession that I plan on becoming in the future I will need a Smartphone.
My Android takes great pictures.

Let’s take a look: Applications

My phone run slowly sometimes but I fail to realize that the Android is a Smartphone. It’s just like a computer that I can use it to call people. When I am trying to run an application it tells me to foreclose or wait for the running. I don’t really know what that mean but I think it mean that I have many applications running at once.
Another application that I like on my phone is the text message application named ChompSMS. I like that application because I can have a specific ringtone and their picture that would come up and play when they text. I also like that I can blacklist people that I don’t want others to know that are texting me. Blacklist is an option that you can use for specific people for private conversations. The only thing about it is that I would have to go to another message application to see if they text or not. I like that I can lock my text message with this application. Another feature that I like is that I can customize my text message how I want it to look. I can change the front, color; also add a picture as my background.
Now that I have gotten use to my phone and I know everything about it I want a new one. Before I return back to school next semester I plan on having the Samsung Galaxy S or the up to date Android that will be out. It has been plenty of other Androids that I want but I just stayed with this one. In August I would have had this phone for a year. The other day I was trying to get on Twitter from my phone I couldn’t post anything I could only read what people have posted on there. The things that I hate about this phone are that it isn’t an Otter Box for this phone and the battery dies quick. On the other hand it’s not a big deal about it.

I LOVE MY ANDROID!!!!

Tweeting

I recently signed up for a Twitter account and became instantly addicted. For me Twitter is more simple and easy to use than Facebook. Your profile can only be a few words about yourself along with you location if you choose. When you "tweet" you only have 140 characters to say what you want with the ability to add your location. The tweets are intended to be short on -the-go blog posts. Like Facebook you can tag followers by using @. You can tag trends using #. For example, the other night while watching the 20/20 Charlie Sheen interview I tagged #tigerblood while watching the show. When clicking on the "#tigerblood" one can view every other tweet with this tag.

Instead of having friends where you have the ability to view each others profiles, Twitter uses followers. This way you can follow a person's posts, such as rap artist Gucci Mane, without them having to view your posts. Being able to follow celebrities is fun and informative. It is also fun to follow your friends and tag them in tweets. "RT" is a common sighting on tweets. This stands for re-tweet. If you tag a celebrity in a tweet and say something they like or enjoy they may RT you for all of their followers to see. I regularly tag Chad Ochocinco hoping to be RTed by him or receive an invitation to hang out with him in Miami as he has done with some followers in the past.

I live life in the fast lane and Twitter is the perfect social network for my lifestyle. Facebook is too busy with too much extra information. Twitter combines Facebook statuses and wall posts (the only cool things about Facebook) getting straight to the point. If you are interested in Twitter but can't pull away from Facebook's death grip you can always have your tweets synced through Facebook.

Facebook vs. Twitter

I recently created a Twitter account about three weeks ago mainly because all my friends were going on and on about how awesome it was. Honestly, I don't see anything awesome about it. How can I tell someone about myself in just a short amount of sentences. I tried to create my biography for my Twitter profile and it told me that the biography was too long. Really? I feel that I am a pretty awesome girl for my biography just to be only five to ten sentences long. Face book gives me a chance to share much more information about myself and my personality and show who I really am. It gives me a chance to show my friends and family the fun and somewhat wild side of me. Another reason why I feel that Face book is better than Twitter is because I value the time I spend connecting with my friends especially now since I'm attending a college that is two hours away from my hometown. Since I started Face book, I don't even use my email or instant messaging anymore. Although Face book can ruin relationships it can also build relationships. Once again I can use the example of me being away from home as an example. My relationship with my friends from back home has actually grown stronger because we write on each other's wall from time to time and we in-box each other to get the update on our crazy lives.

How Netflix Saved My Life!

Okay, so the title is a little misleading. Netflix didn't save my life from a cancerous brain tumor, nor did it come swooping down from the sky and catch me before falling to my death. Netflix, however, is my Superman, or Wonder Woman for the sake of keeping this clean.

For years I, like many, was stuck in the never ending stranglehold that Blockbuster had on America. $3.99 to watch some crappy movie that the clerk thought might possibly be good! Are you kidding me? I'd rather dive headfirst into an empty pool. Add the fact that new releases were constantly sold out; I'm forced to watch option number ten, Step Up 2: The Streets. Hey! I'm already at the store. I have to rent something lest I look stupid for walking out empty handed. Don't even get me started on late fees. The topic is such a sore issue I'd probably end up breaking this site.

So, with every ounce of my being I can say, "I HATE BLOCKBUSTER!". The anxiety and stress was killing me. Enter Netflix.

At first I thought it was just a gimmick. Really? What halfwit wants to order movies through the mail and wait 3 days for it to arrive. I'd rather weather the storm and drive the 2 miles to that most unholy of unholy. But wait, are there really no late fees? I don't have to pay for another full rental because I got to the drop box 10 minutes late? I kind of like this, but it still isn't for me.

The instant stream cometh!

The day I created my Netflix account and turned on my Xbox 360 to stream movies might possible have been the greatest day of my life. Well... Okay, top five at least. Every season of Law and Order: SVU is now mine. Thank you instant queue! I could now watch such terrible, yet ohh so enjoyable terror flicks like Gingerdead Man (a Gary Busey classic if there ever was one), without feeling awkward at the checkout line. And best of all, it's practically free! The streaming service allowed me to become open to so many new genres and styles of movies. In the last two years I've probably seen more new movies than in the 20 years before combined. It's actually almost too much, because now all my friends think I'm some movie seeing machine. A title I'm beginning to like by the way.

So thank you Netflix. Thank you for opening my eyes. Thank you for saving my money. Thank you for giving me the strength to finally burn my Blockbuster card in fiery volcano; lets just hope it doesn't come back for revenge. Thank you for taking the pain and anxiety out of movie rental. And Finally, thank you for saving my life. Without you I'd probably be at Blockbuster right now banging my head against the wall waiting for someone to return 127 Hours, causing me irreversible brain damage.
